Church of Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki

The Church of Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki is located in the very centre of Aytos.

It was built in 1844 on the site of the old Church of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius, which was demolished in 1828.

Like many Bulgarian Orthodox churches, it was burnt down and later rebuilt.

The church has incredibly beautiful icons, paintings and woodcarvings.

It has a peaceful, quiet and beautiful courtyard with a newly built fountain.
